Automobile insurance companies are required by law to offer PIP or Personal Injury Protection coverage. You may opt out with a written statement declining coverage. PIP is designed to take care of medical expenses incurred due to a car accident. These expenses can include but are not limited to: hospital stays, doctor visits, chiropractic care and massage therapy. Your specific policy will state the dollar amount of services they will cover. Your Personal Injury Protection policy covers you and your passengers regardless of who is at fault.
What you need to know
Each insurance company will have slightly different requirements for using your PIP coverage for massage therapy. Generally the following items are sufficient to use PIP for massage treatment:
Doctors referral or prescription for massage therapy
Diagnosis codes on referral or presceiption
Total number of visits requested on the referral or prescription
Car insurance policy number
Date of accident
Car accident claim number
Once we have this information we will contact the insurance company to verify you have an open PIP claim to cover the charges. *verification of an open claim does not verify coverage benefits have not been exhausted.
*Verification of PIP or third party benefits does not guarantee payment by the insurance company. Massage bills are ultimately the responsibility of the patient.
